About Us

The Preschool at St. Andrew plans learning activities that are appropriate to the child’s age and development.

We have established goals at each age level that are developmentally appropriate and designed to prepare the child for kindergarten experiences. We have made a special effort to coordinate our goals with the GA Early Learning Standards (GELDS).

We believe in learning through play. We structure our activities to be directed learning that is fun for the students. Children play in centers, have short group activities, read lots of stories, learn songs and finger-plays, have snack, & play outside.

All our children spend 20-50 minutes each week with our music teacher. Our 4's and 5's attend Math and Science camp once a month.
Our activities are experienced based and hands-on. Each child completes a fun project every day with the teacher that focuses on learning goals.

The Preschool at St. Andrewis a safe and healthy environment.

The Preschool has been fully accredited for many years.  First by the National Association for Education of Young Children and also by the North Georgia United Preschool and Bright from the Start. These distinctions ensure that our school meets certain qualifications and the highest standards of childhood education.

We are also certified by the N GA Methodist conference as a ‘Program of Excellence’.

We follow accepted guidelines for disease prevention including regular disinfections of surfaces and toys, hand washing, and gloves for diaper changing and food preparation.
We conduct fire drills and tornado drills and have a plan for other emergencies. We are working toward certification as a 'Healthy Green School' using non-toxic cleaning products and serving organic, non-GMO snacks.

Our staff is up to date on CPR and First Aid. All staff members have a background check.

We serve nutritious snacks and teach children to make good choices about health.

Our playground was planned with the assistance of a Certified Playground Inspector and meets all safety standards. Children play outside every day that weather permits.

Discipline is established through the classroom structure, a regular schedule, and simple classroom rules. A regular routine and redirection help children learn to get along successfully in the classroom environment. Short time-out is used occasionally.

We believe that children should feel safe in school. Children who continue to be physically aggressive may not continue in our program.

Program Descriptions

Young 2’s Classes MW class, TTh class, or F class
This program offers children a first opportunity to spend a few hours a week away from mom. Students may attend 1 or 2 days and will be in a class with 2 teachers and 9 students. Children have a regular schedule of fun, developmentally appropriate activities each day they attend.  Most students in these classes turn two during the summer or fall. Students must be walking competently. Most turn 2 by 12/31; minimum age is 16 months.

Two Year Program MW class, TTh class, or F class
Children in this program usually attend 2 days a week. Classes are limited to 9 students with 2 teachers. Students must be 2 by August 1. A regular schedule of play activities is designed to help children meet established goals. Parents of two year-olds may elect to add the Friday class to a two day class.  Classes may be combined for 3, 4, or 5 days.

Young 3’s Program TThF class
The children in this class most often have late spring, summer and fall birthdays. All will be three by Dec. 31 and many will be three before school starts. Not all students will be potty-trained but parents are urged to help them meet this milestone as soon as possible. Our teachers in these classes are experts at encouraging this skill! The regular curriculum for 3's is used in these classes but teachers individualize to meet the developmental age of children.

Programs for 3's  3 day MWF or TThF class; M - Th or M - F class
Children in this program must be 3 by September 1. Nearly all will be potty-trained before school starts. Groups are limited to 12 with 2 teachers.   We offer a 3, 4 or 5 day option.

Children in this program must be four by December 31. This class of young 4’s has no more than 14 students with 2 teachers. This class is designed for students who miss the 9/1 cut off birthdate for 4's and will spend another year in our preschool before kindergarten. Learning goals from both the 3's and the 4's curriculum are applied in this class.

Four-day-4’s Program Monday - Thursday classes
This program is designed to prepare students for a successful experience in kindergarten. Many pre-academic goals are introduced and mastered. We accept 16 students per class and there are two classes. Students must be four by September 1.

Five-day-4’s Program Monday - Friday class
Students in these classes are ready for a full week of preschool. Class activities for both the four and five day classes are similar but the 5 day groups will have an extra day of fun learning opportunities. All students turn four before September 1.

Young 5's Class Monday - Friday class
This class has 16 students. This class is very much like a kindergarten class but is designed to provide an extra year for maturing for the child who is five but not quite ready for kindergarten.
