December 2010

Sing-a-long Friday 11:30 - December 17 Last Day of Classes
Join us for our annual sing-a-long in the Fellowship Hall of the Keheley Center. Please come even if it is not your usual class day. The children are all practicing Christmas songs to enjoy during the event! Some of our older classes will have individual songs to present.
Grandparents and siblings are welcome! If you will not be attending, please tell your child so that he/she is not disappointed.
Pick up your child from the classrooms between 11:15 – 11:25 or join us when we bring the students over. Classes will sit on the floor together but we will also have chairs available around the circle. Teachers will have special signs so it is easy to find them. We will sing familiar Christmas songs together until 12:00 and then everyone will go home to start the Christmas Break. We will not offer the extended day that day for any age.
Note the time of your class party on your child’s calendar. Some class parties will take place prior to the event. We appreciate all the wonderful food and activities that you provide at these special occasions. (Gift bags are not necessary.)

Christmas Holidays
Friday, December 17 the holidays begin. We will be back in school on Tuesday, January 4, 2010. Have a safe and joyous Christmas!

Coats and Jackets
Your child will go outside every day that it is not raining. Please send a coat and mittens. Don’t forget to label your child’s belongings. We are still working on the taking-off/putting –on skills. Please work with your child at home. Most 3’s and 4’s can master this skill.

SCRIP Gift Certificates Don’t overlook this opportunity!
The last day to order SCRIP for Christmas is Friday December 3. Pick-up is scheduled for Monday, December 13 in the Preschool Office from 11 – 12:00. If you do not pick yours up, we will send them home in book bags.

Giving Opportunities this Month
If your children are old enough, involve them in some of these charitable activities as a learning experience in helping others.
· Egleston Toy Collection
You will get a letter from Ms. Karen about this toy giving opportunity. We are happy to be able to help this wonderful hospital and the children it serves again this year. Remember to drop off your new, unwrapped toy during carpool.
· Be a Santa
St. Andrew UMC has promised to provide Christmas gifts for 200+ needy children in the area. Go by the church office to pick up information on a particular child.
· Food Collection
We will continue to collect food throughout December. It is OK to send non-perishables in the school bags or leave it outside the church office.

Tis the Season… For Germs
Please wash hands before school and as soon as possible after school. Check for fever and any other symptoms of illness before coming to school.

Critter Days
Mikey Peeler’s parents have a great display of pelts, stuffed animals, and caged wild animals. They are sharing their collection with our students on December 1 and 2.

Hot Topics in Christian Parenting
We anticipate offering some discussion groups with Dr. Carol Haisten after the holidays. These were a popular opportunity for our parents two years ago and we plan to offer several sessions again starting in January. Look for additional information soon!

Preschool Office email
Our preschool office email was down for a couple of week in November. If you did not receive a reply to an email, we are sorry! It is always OK to use Helen’s home email or to call.
