January News...

by Ms. Helen on January 28th, 2011

Welcome back! We hope your Christmas Break was fun! Thanks for all the wonderful gifts you gave the preschool staff! Everyone felt loved and appreciated. We especially appreciate the gifts you sent in for Egleston Hospital Children. The toys were of high quality and perfect for a variety of ages. The coordinator at Children’s Healthcare was delighted.

Caring Bridge Reports – Victoria Moon
As many of you know, one of our preschool moms had an accident before Christmas that has left her in a coma. If you would like to keep up with her progress, see the site below. There is also information about how you can help the family. As you can imagine, her family is missing her! They have a graduate of St. Andrew, a current student in Ms. Jenny/Ms. Tamara’s class and a toddler daughter. Read the latest update and show your support at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/victoriamoon In addition, please keep her in your prayers!

Box Tops
We received a check for $250! Thanks for sending in your Box Tops! Tami Moore is handing over her secrets to Kristine Peeler, our new ‘Box Tops Mom’. We will be sending in our next collection in March. Please continue to collect and send in your box tops.

Many people think that yoga is just stretching. Yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility. Yoga sessions are $30 a month, the first class is free. Come and check it out! Nursery provided upon request, nursery is $5 a month. Please call Sandy at 770-926-3488 or email sandy@thepumpkinchurch.org

Upcoming Dates to Remember:

January 17 MLK Day School Holiday

January 24 Hot Topics in Christian Parenting
Dr. Carol Haisten has agreed to do some sessions with us again. The first meeting is January 24 at 9:30. Her sessions were wonderful when she worked with us 2 years ago.
She is a former preschool board member and long time preschool supporter. She is a retired school psychologist and former special education administrator with 30+ years experience.
Each session will last about 1 hour and is FREE to preschool parents. We will offer nursery to children who are not in school that day. If space permits, you can bring a friend.
To register & request nursery, please email preschool@standrewunitedmethodist.org. (You can also just show up that morning but it would be helpful to know if we need to arrange nursery and also to know how large a group to prepare for.)

January 31 - February 4 Conference Week Early dismissal
You will be receiving an invitation to meet with your child’s teacher during our Conference Week. All classes will dismiss at the 11:00 carpool. We hope this will be a time to share information about your child’s progress and that you will enjoy talking with your child’s teacher. We plan to give you an idea of the many objectives in our curriculum for your child’s age group. Your child will most likely have mastered only part of our list of objectives mid year.

Registration for the 2011-12 School Year
You will receive registration materials at your conference and have a chance to discuss your child’s class for the next school year. Please, make sure you get a registration packet and talk with your teacher about placement options. Note new dates for registration:
Current students and siblings February 7 & 8 priority dates
Church Members & ‘alumni’ families February 10
Public Registration February 11 Our policies concerning registration:
  • We plan for the parents of all our current students and their siblings to have priority.
  • Fill out your paperwork and turn it in with your check. Please mark a 1st and 2nd choice of classes. Write your check based on your first choice. We will make every effort to give our current families first choice of classes.
  • The school places students with teachers. We try to honor requests but that is not always possible.
  • We have kept our tuition rates at the 2010-11 levels. We hope you will continue to find our rates affordable and a good value.
  • The registration fee is non-returnable. In addition to the registration fee, one month of tuition is required and is applied to August 2011. Also, if you would prefer to pay the registration fee and the August 2011 tuition with separate checks, we can arrange to hold the tuition check.
  • Please remember that if your plans change for next fall, we will not return the up-front month of tuition unless you contact us in writing by July 16. We have this policy to protect the preschool from parents who leave at the last minute after we have turned others down. It is everyone’s interest for our class rolls to be complete.
  • We plan to offer the same class options for 2010-11 as in the current year. A full listing is on the registration application but includes 1, 2, or 3 days for 2’s; 2 or 3 days for 3’s; 4 or 5 days for 4’s and 5 days for young 5’s. Tuition for 3’s & 4’s includes the lunch hour.
  • We hope to be able to accommodate some new families. Please suggest that your friends call for a tour during January and early February.
